The latest release of CAD-embedded Simcenter FLOEFD 2021.2.1 has just been released. Simcenter FLOEFD is a CAD-embedded computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solution and supports NX, Solid Edge, CATIA V5 and Creo. Due to its unique technology, it can reduce the overall simulation time by up to 75%. The new capabilities featured in this version are 1D Elements and a new Simcenter FLOEFD EV module. Let’s take a look at the new functionalities available in the latest release:

1D Elements

The 1D Elements increase the simulation speed and reduce mesh requirements using 1D Elements within a 3D Simulation. Users can automatically convert a pipe into a chain of 1D Elements and solve their fluid and thermal interactions using 1D CFD embedded in Simcenter FLOEFD, allowing the user to run simulations faster without compromising on accuracy. A dedicated 1D Elements GUI gives users the opportunity to define boundary conditions based upon geometry that is not present in the 3D Model providing accurate boundaries to a CFD simulation.
The 1D Element system is therefore used to run the simulation inside the pipes with a 3D simulation run on the outside of the pipes. The 2D faces between the 1D system and the 3D simulation are the boundaries between the two simulations, taking into account the heat transfer between the 1D and 3D simulations solved in one simulation.
The 1D Elements are based on Simcenter Flomaster technology.

New Simcenter FLOEFD EV module

The new Simcenter FLOEFD EV module (EV = Electric Vehicle) comprises various capabilities crucial for comprehensive multiphysics (thermal-electrical-electromagnetics-structural) analysis of e-Powertrain and its components such as batteries, inverters, DC Links, IGBTs, MOSFETs, Busbars and ECUs. The capabilities include Electro-ChemicalThermal Model (ECTM) and Equivalent Circuit Model (ECM) battery models, Joule heating, Membrane, Electrical Element, Electromagnetics, Structural, SmartPCB, Two resistor, Network assembly (DELPHI model), PCB and Heatpipe compact models.

The Simcenter FLOEFD EV module is therefore a module bundle consisting of the Electronics Cooling, Power Electrification, EMAG and Structural module and also got the SmartPCB and Network Assembly feature added to it.
To access this functionality, you will need the “Simcenter FLOEFD EV” module license.
