What is Amazon QuickSight?

Amazon QuickSight is a fast, cloud-based easy to use service provided by Amazon that allows user to build interactive dashboards within minutes with visuals that can provide productive information from the user datasets. It is one of the most powerful business intelligence service that makes it easy to create and build visualizations, perform ad-hoc analysis and deliver accurate insights from the data. It enables businesses to upgrade from a spreadsheet-based reporting to a sophisticated, interactive tool that can analyse data. It provides cost-effective, fast and extremely interactive business intelligence for any enterprise.
It is a fully managed service and uses AWS Super-fast, Parallel, In-memory Calculation Engine (SPICE) to quickly perform data calculations and create graphs. It can automatically discover AWS data sources and works with other variety of data sources for data analysis, including files, AWS services and on-premises databases.

SPICE

AWS SPICE (Super-fast, Parallel, In-memory Calculation Engine) is a robust in-memory engine engineered to rapidly perform advanced calculations, serve data and render visualizations. Amazon QuickSight is built on top of SPICE increasing its storage and processing capacity speeding up the analytical queries that are executed on the imported data. The service also provides an option to transform raw, unstructured data into a refined, structured format for use in an analysis.
SPICE uses columnar storage and data compression to run queries on data sets. It automatically replicates data for high availability allowing thousands of users to simultaneously perform fast, interactive analysis. SPICE decreases the need to retrieve the data every time an analysis is modified or a visual is updated saving time and resources.

QuickSight’s Visual Presentations

QuickSight offers an amazing set of visualization options to provide a better insight to the data being represented on the dashboard. The components of the QuickSight visualization presentation platform includes:

Analysis: It is the basic workspace for creating and interacting with visuals. Each analysis is a calibrated with a collection of visuals that are arranged to show accurate and appropriate insights to the data imported. An analysis can also contain stories to show modifications over time.

Visuals: It is defined as a pictorial illustration of a dataset like a chart, a graph, a table or even a diagram. Amazon QuickSight supports a variety of visuals including combo charts, heat and tree maps, pivot tables, and more and various customization options to enhance the readability of the dashboard.
Amazon QuickSight provides an AutoGraph mode, that selects a visualization automatically based on the fields selected from the imported data apart from manually selecting the type of visualization to represent the data.

Insights (ML Insights): They provide valuable interpretations using its machine learning capabilities to analyse your data. The insights show the trends in data helping in forecasting the business and performance metrics.

Sheets: A sheet is defined as a group of visuals viewed together in a single page. An analysis can include more than a single sheet.

Stories: A story is a collection of one or more captured visuals that can be played like a slideshow to display different iterations of an analysis.
