First and foremost it is important to understand that in most companies the engineering change management process is not just one process. There are several processes that make up the engineering change management process framework. The reasons why one change management process typically is not enough are that there are multiple steps between noticing that there is something wrong and implementing a change to fix what’s wrong, and that changes get more complex as a product, part or document matures and moves to the later stages of the life cycle. And that should be reflected in the processes for each stage of the life cycle. But let’s take it one step at a time.
